CLARK, NJ - Over 40 Valley Road School families joined together at the school Friday night for a "Taste of VRS." This annual event, now in its tenth year, was chaired this year by Steven and Cathy Donkersloot. Families, friends and schoolmates tasted a variety of dishes from local eateries and homemade treats, too.
A family-friendly tricky tray auction was a highlight of the night with well over 40 winners. Step It Up events provided a photo booth for silly and serious family photos. The winner of the "Reverse Raffle" was the last name chosen and that family received a $20 gift card to Oh' Brian's on the Green.
"It was nice to see all the families get together and have a family night at the school. Events like this are about having fun, getting out and reconnecting with friends and teachers from years past," said Steve Donkersloot. "I hope all who attended enjoyed themselves."
Clark BBQ donated chicken, ribs, picadino, rice and vegtables to the buffet. Chili's Restaurant contributed chips, salsa and queso dip. Lun Wah restaurant in Roselle presented beef kabob, barbecue ribs, Generals Tso chicken and chicken fingers. 7-Eleven of Clark donated sweet brownies for dessert. Phillippo’s Pizza, Vaccaro’s Bakery and Oh’ Brian's on the Green in Clark and Benvenuti’s of Garwood also donated to the evening.
Soups, salads, appetizers and desserts were made and donated by select contributors to the Valley Road School Cookbook. New this year, the cookbook combines over 140 recipes from VRS families and staff into a professionally printed and hardbound cookbook. Purchasers of the cookbook also receive a downloadable eBook version.
Cookbook sponsors included Phillippos Pizza, Friendly’s, Tarentella’s, Clark BBQ, Main Moon, Erika’s Cucina, Blue Bayou BBQ, Clark White Diamond, Bistro 1051 and TAP into Clark.
"We really want to thank the sponsors," said Donkersloot. "With their support the cookbook has already been a great success."
