SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Twin City Pharmacy and Surgical held its annual Customer Appreciation Day on Sept. 28 at the South Plainfield Senior Center. The event featured free food and beverages, giveaways and free flu vaccinations.

Located at 1708 Park Avenue, Twin City was established in 1972 by Tom Cassio and his late brother Ralph and has been run for the past eight years by Tom’s son Tommy Cassio, Ralph’s daughter Sandy Cassio, and Sandy’s brother-in-law Bill Ashnault, Pharmacist-in-Charge. The family-run business prides itself on being a ‘modern pharmacy with old-fashioned values,’ and for the past four years has held Customer Appreciation Day as a way to assist and give back to the community.

“We don't hold this event for any other reason than to give back to the seniors and the community,” said Ashnault. “That is what we are all about.”

“Over the past few years, we have enjoyed our visits to the Senior Center. The buzz of activities and camaraderie amongst the members is wonderful to see,” said Sandy Cassio, extended thanks to the ‘the “knitting room ladies’ for sharing their space for Customer Appreciation Day event.

Throughout the afternoon, Ashnault and Tom Cassio served up over 100 hot dogs with all the fixings along with soda, water and chips while Sandy Cassio worked alongside Twin City’s Linda Chiu, Pharm D., who administered over 30 flu shots. Attendees also received free pillboxes, pens, 2017 pocket calendars and reusable tote bags.

Although South Plainfield Senior Center members Jean Martin and Ginny Petriello typically don’t have lunch at the center, both attended Customer Appreciation Day in support of the pharmacy.

“I am here because I appreciate them,” said Martin, a resident of South Plainfield since 1956 who began doing business with Twin City back when the pharmacy first opened its doors.

Over the years, Martin and the Cassio family have become friends. “I was just saying the other day how proud Ralph Cassio would be. They are always looking to give back and they are a strong and good family. That shows with everything they do,” Martin said, “I always go to them and it’s because of their professionalism as well as their friendship.”

Petriello, who has resided in South Plainfield for over 50 years, added, “They are a great pharmacy, a great family and its wonderful that they do this for the seniors. They go out of their way each year.”

In addition to being a full-service pharmacy for prescriptions and vaccinations, Twin City offers durable medical equipment, surgical and wound care, ostomy/incontinence care, respiratory care, diabetic management, enteral feeding supplies and orthopedics as well as breast pumps. Twin City installs portable ramps; provides medication and equipment to hospice and health care patients; and offers free delivery service to all customers, including those who may not reside within South Plainfield. The pharmacy stocks most over-the-counter and prescription medications, can handle special orders, and offers a wide-range of medical equipment on site. Additionally, Twin City accepts worker’s compensation, Medicare and most insurance plans.

“We invite anyone interested to visit us at the pharmacy and let us know if we can be of any service with prescriptions, equipment or helping to choose their Medicare D prescription plan for the upcoming year,” said Sandy Cassio.

February 14, 2018

I read with interest in a local newspaper regarding the Union county democrat party political infighting for their “county chair” selection.  There were 2 letters juxtaposed, each one listing supporters of either Senator Scutari or Fanwood Mayor Mahr, who are the two main people vying for the “boss” position.

Although I am a democrat I am not a committee ...
