CRANFORD – Student-athletes on the Union County College women’s and men’s track and field teams competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship from May 10-12, 2018, at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York.
For the women’s team, Chisom Chinedu place 2nd in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles. Tochi Chinedu placed 4th in the 400 meter dash and 5th in the 200 meter dash. Keren Mocayo placed 3rd in the javelin and 7th in the discus. Kadrian Rice placed 6th in the Shotput. Overall the women finished in 5th place as a team and the men finished 13th as a team. These are the highest finishes at nationals since Union began competing 5 years ago.
For the women’s relay team, comprised of Nwaneka, Chisom, Tochi Chinedu, and Angelica Ortega, the team took 2nd place in the 4x100m relay and 3rd place in the 4x400m relay. For the men’s team, William Ferdinando took 6th place in the javelin. Josh Fitts took 2nd place in the 100 meter dash and 3rd place in the 200 meter dash.
“The College’s track and field program is only a few years old and our student-athletes are committed to achieving success, both in competition and in the classroom. I am proud to see that their training and commitment paid off with a strong showing at the Championship,” state Dean of College Life Tammy Smith.
