Union County Sheriff Promotes Two Officers from Clark

ELIZABETH, NJ - Union County Sheriff Joseph Cryan recently conducted sheriff department officer promotions during a ceremony held at the Union County Courthouse.  

Clark resident Mark Banek was promoted to the rank of sheriff’s captain.  David Pepe, also of Clark, was promoted to sergeant.

Carlo Caparruva of Elizabeth attained the rank of lieutenant.

"They are prepared, poised, and ready for the new challenges that await them," Cryan posted on his Facebook page.

Union County Freeholder Vice Chairman Sergio Granados and Elizabeth Councilman Manny Grova joined Cryan in congratulating the officers.

Cranford Man Dies after Wrong-Way Crash on Route 9

April 10, 2018

WOODBRIDGE, NJ – A Cranford man died after his car collided with another vehicle on Route 9 on Sunday.

Thomas McHugh, 88, was driving north in the southbound fast lane on Route 9, where he crashed head-on into another vehicle. On impact, one of the cars caught fire, according to Sgt. Jim Chessere of the Woodbridge Police Department.
