CRANFORD – Union County College student-athlete Andrew Gutierrez, of Cranford, New Jersey, finished 8th in the nation and was named second team All-American at the National Junior College Athletic Association National Golf Championship. The tournament was held from June 4-8, 2018 at the Chautauqua Institution Golf Course in Chautauqua, New York. Mr. Gutierrez had a combined four day total score of 308. His finish was the highest ever for a member of the College’s Golf Team.

Mr. Gutierrez had a very strong season. To advance to the championship, Mr. Gutierrez won the Region XIX Golf Tournament on May 7-8 at Galloping Hill in Kenilworth, New Jersey. He fired two rounds of 71, for a total score of 142, and defeated the field by more than ten strokes. Mr. Gutierrez is only the second Union student-athlete to win the Region XIX Golf Championship Tournament. The last time a member of the golf team won this tournament was Dr. Thomas Clark in 1977.

Mr. Gutierrez graduated from Union in May 2018 with his Associate in Science degree in sport management and will attend Rutgers University-Camden in the fall.
