Union County, North Plainfield, and South Plainfield, NJ - United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC) has fired up their 2015 Stuff the Bus Campaign. Stuff the Bus aims to provide low-income families with school supplies for the upcoming school year. Last year, thanks to corporate partners and volunteers, United Way was able to provide new school supplies to over 600 children from families residing in Union County, North Plainfield and South Plainfield.

"Stuff the Bus is a fun initiative that allows our partners to get involved with low-income families that are working to create better opportunities for their children and their future," states President and CEO, James Horne. "This initiative also gives the community at large the opportunity to help carry out our commitment to change the odds for children and families, while easing some of the pressures families feel in preparing for the upcoming school year."

Last year the following community partners received school supplies for children: CIC Youth and Family Success Center, South Plainfield Board of Education, Jefferson Park Family Success Center, Plainfield Board of Education Family Success Center, Kings Daughter Day Care, Proceed Inc., and the City of Elizabeth. Employees at various locations throughout Union County are encouraged to donate backpacks, notebooks, markers, crayons, glue, and pencils, along with other items for the "Ready-to-Learn" backpack campaign that runs until August 14th.

This year will be the first year that UWGUC will include a volunteer day on August 24th, located at the Erxleban Recreation Center in Elizabeth, NJ. During this day participants will lend a helping hand to stuff all back packs in preparation for the bus ride, on August 25th. This bus ride is the BIG DAY where volunteers join UWGUC staff on a school bus donated by Villani Bus Company in Linden, NJ, stuffed with all of the school supply donations.  All companies who participate in the collection of supplies are welcome to join the ride as UWGUC stops at each participating community partner to deliver the donations to each child personally!

Also new this year, each organization will have the opportunity to enter into two contests for the most collected school supplies and most creative collection box. The two teams will be awarded up to five riders and their logo displayed on the stuffed school bus to distribute backpacks to sites throughout Greater Union County, which will take place on August 25th. Companies that have signed on for the 2015 Campaign include: Insurance Auto Auction, Inc., NuStar Energy, FedEx Ground, Comcast/NBC Universal, Roselle Savings Bank, CR Bard, Linde North America, GENEWIZ Inc., Provident Bank, Macy's South Plainfield and Santander Bank.

If you would like to participate in the 2015 Stuff the Bus Campaign or for media inquiries regarding this campaign, please contact Charlene Bathelus at Charlene.Bathelus@uwguc.org or 908-353-7171.

Scutari vs Mahr

February 14, 2018

I read with interest in a local newspaper regarding the Union county democrat party political infighting for their “county chair” selection.  There were 2 letters juxtaposed, each one listing supporters of either Senator Scutari or Fanwood Mayor Mahr, who are the two main people vying for the “boss” position.

Although I am a democrat I am not a committee ...
