CRANFORD, NJ – UPDATE:  10:26 a.m. 

The early morning accident reported at 6:03 a.m. on the northbound lane of the Garden State Parkway has resulted in a fatality, as confirmed by Trooper Alejandro Goez of the NJ State Police.  “The incident involved a single vehicle, a Toyota sedan crashed into a tree with a male occupant who was declared dead at the scene,“ said Goez.   The name of the driver has not been released pending notification.  

All lanes of the parkway were reopened at 10:00 a.m.

ORIGINAL STORY:

An early morning accident on the Garden State Parkway has resulted in extensive delays and lane closures for northbound commuters.   According to the NJ State Police’s Twitter Feed, the accident is at exit 137 on the parkway.   No other details are being released at this time.  

Helicopters were reported above the scene, no official word on the cause of the accident or those involved in it.   Updates will be provided as available.    Motorists should avoid the area this morning.
