CLARK, NJ – At Valley Road School in Clark, virtual Chat and Chew meetings held by School Counselor Sarah Badillo have been a large success, providing students the opportunity to join and socialize with one another.

“I came up with the idea of Chat and Chew because not only is education important but socialization during times when play dates are happening less often and the school days are so short is also critical," said Badillo.

The weekly schedule for the Chat and Chew meetings is posted on Badillo's Google Classroom and each session ranges from 30 minutes to an hour. Those who join spend the time talking, playing games, and even jamming out with their instruments.

“There are times I have a goal of what I would like us to focus on during our Chat and Chew, but we end up going in a different direction," added Badillo. "However, we have the same outcome of fun, socialization, laughs, and a sense of we are in this together."

Third-grader Fiona Genova, a frequent visitor of Chat and Chew said, “I like laughing and eating while I am with my friends.”

Gigi and Lulu Cannici, both second-graders, agree, stating “It is nice to have a chance to interact with students in other classes and grades. We look forward to seeing what Mrs. Badillo will do each time. The laughs are non-stop, and it is always so much fun."
