VENICE, ITALY- Going, going, gondola! On Friday, April 13th, 2019, Arthur L. Johnson high school students arrived in northern Italy. Students stayed on Lido, a small island in Venice. Upon arrival, students settled into the Hotel Le Boulevard before taking a waterbus into San Marco.
This destination is known to have immense amounts of visitors, as it is home to many attractions such as the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Basilica, and the Bridge of Sighs.
During their first night, students were given a tour of San Marco by their WorldStrides tour guide and ate an amazing three course meal consisting of lasagna, pork, and various pastries. During their second day, students visited the Doge’s Palace.
Following this, students and chaperones went on gondola rides in the city on the lagoon. They finished their night with another three course meal of risotto and chicken. Dessert was a traditional Italian cream puff pastry called profiterole. The following day, students headed for Florence, the art capital of Italy on a ferry.
