ELIZABETH/ROSELLE/LINDEN, NJ - Police, Fire, and Rescue units responded to a U.S. Mail truck that drove head-on into the pond in Warinanco Park on Thursday afternoon.
Sometime after 2 p.m. responders were called to the scene to find the mail truck in the water. A park worker said that while he did not see the truck go into the water, he did arrive just in time to see who he believed to be a former Linden police officer help the postal worker out of the truck and through the water to the bank. The worker said the officer just happened to be coming through the park when the incident happened.
The driver was put into an ambulance and while witnesses at the scene said he did not appear to have any serious injuries, the driver burst out of the ambulance doors and tried to run away. Police quickly pulled him back into the unit.
A tow truck arrived and pulled the truck out of the water. The driver was transported to the hospital and no further details were available as to the cause of the accident.
