Private Charles Bitsko died in the line of duty in Nov. 1942 while on board a troop transport ship in the Pacific Ocean. A bridge was named in his honor near his unit’s camp in the South Pacific.
Although Bitsko grew up in nearby Hillside, New Jersey, his residence at the time of his entry into the army was Raritan Road in Clark.
Bitsko is buried in Hillside, New Jersey.
