Margaret (Peggy) Kirk Leonard passed away Monday, April 23rd, surrounded by her loved ones. Peggy was born in Elizabeth, NJ, daughter of Mary & John Kirk, on June 29, 1927. She graduated from Benedictine Academy. Upon graduation, she worked for many years at Exxon Research Center in Linden, NJ.

In 1952, Peggy married her late husband, Raymond L. Leonard. After marrying, they moved from Elizabeth to Clark, NJ, where Peggy lived for over 64 years and raised her daughter, Maryellen Leonard Stochel. Over the years, she was very active at St. John the Apostle School and worked in the library at Mother Seton, both of which her daughter attended and graduated. She and her husband were also involved in many church activities. In addition, Peggy was very active in the Scout Program and also worked with a small group that established the first library in Clark - soliciting house to house for books.

In 1995, Peggy went back to school and received her degree from Union County College, of which she and her family were extremely proud. Peggy was a 30 year active member of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. Along with her family and friends, the Y became a very important, supportive part of her life following the death of her daughter Maryellen in 2001.

Peggy is survived by her grandson, Raymond Leonard Stochel, her son-in-law, Joseph Stochel, and many other loved family members. Peggy is predeceased by her husband Raymond, her daughter Maryellen, and her three beloved sisters Rita Kunzmann, Jean Kenna, and Colleen Zingler.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral from the Walter Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Road, Clark on Saturday, April 28th at 9 am, thence to St. John the Apostle Church, Clark, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am.
