CLARK, NJ – Some local Girl Scouts in Troop #40249, along with a few siblings from Troop 40859 recently teamed up with the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #366, out of Belleville to make care packages for troops overseas.
During their time together, Matt Erszkowicz, Chapter Commander, along with John Bezerra and Nick Pietropaolo discussed their service and what care packages mean to deployed troops. Then they worked with the scouts to pack boxes.
Scouts girls brought donations of candy, snacks, personal hygiene items, magazines and many other things men and women overseas can use. The Purple Heart Chapter supported the Girl Scout troop by donating $500 for the purchasing of items and will also pay for the shipment of the packages.
The scouts worked together in pairs to complete their checklist of items to go into each box. They also wrote letters, notes and drew and colored pictures for the troops to put into their boxes.
“The girls really put their hearts into making these packages. It was a great partnership between the veterans and the brownies working together for one common cause,” said Troop Leader Michelle Erszkowicz. “Not only are they providing essentials but hopefully they will have put a smile on the faces of the men and women who serve and protect our country every day.”
