CLARK, NJ—As Halloween creeps closer and the crisp fall breeze rolls in, ALJ named the Student and Crusader of the Month. The October Crusader of the Month, named in honor of extraordinary community and ALJ involvement, is senior Cody Downing.

Cody Downing is the founder and president of the Spanish Club at ALJ. He is also a committed member of marching band, Science Olympiad, and volunteers on behalf of the community through Key Club.

Academically, Cody is able to balance his involvement with a schedule including two advanced placement courses (biology and psychology) as well as the UCC sociology course ALJ offers. In terms of electives, Downing takes pre-med which also happens to be his favorite class.

Cody’s family moved to Clark when he was in first grade. His family really liked the “small town” feeling of Clark. “My favorite part of going to school at ALJ is the feeling that we are a family,” said Downing.

Outside of school, Downing works at Union County Healthcare Associates and volunteers at RWJ Hospital and for the Clark First Aid Squad. As these volunteer paths suggest, Downing plans to major in biology focused on pre-med and hopes to attend Seton Hall or Rutgers next fall.
