Brennan, a Defensive Lineman on the ALJ Crusader Football team is one of this week’s nominees from the tri-state area. In his profile Brennan describes his commitment to his academics, Crusader football, family, leadership, volunteerism and more.
The Heart of the Giant Award program begins for students with a nomination by a coach. The USA Football organization then reviews all the nominations and announces ten athletes per week for six weeks. According to the website, by the end of that time, the nominees with the most votes each week will be chosen, in addition to four others based on work ethic and character. Those ten will be the finalists in the competition. Voting for this week's pick ends shortly and the winner will be announced on October 14.
The ten finalists will receive a $1K equipment grant for their school and be asked to submit a video. Finally, USA Football, Hospital for Special Surgery and the NY Giants will review all the finalist and award an overall winner. The winner will receive an additional $9K equipment grant and are honored at a NY Giants home game later this year.
