CLARK, NJ - As the leaves began to fall, Arthur L. Johnson High School announced Heidi Compton as the Student of the Month for October.
Compton is in the National Honor Society and is involved in clubs such as the Science League and Peer Leadership. Compton is also the president of the graduating class of 2020.
Compton said that she is most proud of her dedication and her persistence, she always tries her best and refuses to give up.
Compton is a field hockey player and enjoys playing the sport in her free time. She has been playing field hockey since she was in seventh grade.
She credits her coach with making an impact on her time at ALJ. “She taught me how not to fear failure and how to channel my energy into something productive,” said Compton.
On a side note, the Field Hockey team has made it to state level competitions this season. Compton said she will miss her field hockey teammates and coach when she leaves for college, along with her great teachers
Compton has started thinking about applying to colleges like Johns Hopkins and Vassar. She plans on studying international relations and English. Compton wants to become a lawyer in the future.
Compton’s key to success is “hard work and a good work ethic. Even if you are not the most talented, you have to try harder than everyone else and you can succeed,” she says.
