CLARK, NJ: Arthur L. Johnson High School named Mia DeSantis Crusader of the Month for March. DeSantis was honored for her school participation and talents in school plays and other functions.
DeSantis has applied to Fairleigh Dickinson University where she plans on studying Nursing. “I’ve always found medicine to be quite interesting and I like to care for others,” explained DeSantis.
DeSantis believes her key to success is time and dedication. “If you want to succeed, you have to wait however long it takes, and do what it takes,” DeSantis added.
She has been active in the Drama program for several years. “Just this year I had been honored with the position of Thespian President” said DeSantis regarding her achievement, “and my goal had been to make everyone feel like a family in theater. Things were different when I was a lower classmen and I often got the feeling I didn’t belong, and so I wanted that to change. I’m proud to say it has.”
DeSantis is “all in” on stage. When asked what she enjoys doing in her spare time, she responded, “Considering how busy I am with the shows and all, I usually like to either practice my music or just simply kick back and relax.”
She said she will miss the stage more than anything else at ALJ. “I will definitely miss performing on stage with my cast mates. I love acting and theater, but I don’t plan on pursuing it in college,” DeSantis added.
“Out of all the teachers I had throughout high school, Mr. Nevargic had the biggest impact on me. I only had him as an actual teacher for one year though,” said DeSantis, “I was a part of the Thespian Honors Society and he was my director for four years. With that being said, I looked up to him as a mentor. He offered a lot of great advice and helped me gain my confidence in performing, and in life.”
