CLARK, NJ – Second grade teachers at Valley Road School found a way to take pictures and enjoy new experiences with their students while learning across a virtual distance.
Teachers Cecilia Petela, Sharon Pinto, and Samantha Mazzucco recently gave their students “flat teachers.” According to school officials, flat teachers are cartoon-like cut out teachers that serve as a way for students to remain connected to their teachers during the separation required by the pandemic.
Students were asked take photographs with their flat teachers when they were out exploring new places or reading in a special spot. The teachers asked students to write about their activities in a journal as well as send a picture the student holding their flat teacher.
“We are trying to encourage the students to keep writing with the added fun of taking interesting pictures with their teachers,” said Petela.
