MONTVILLE, NJ – A nurse tragically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic recently received a new roof thanks to a program through Morris Habitat for Humanity, Blue Nail Roofing and GAF Roofing.

John Hogan, a Clark Native and owner of Blue Nail Roofing is part of the group called Roofs for Heroes.  The program is designed to provide a roof, free of charge, for an essential worker affected by the pandemic. The team recently helped a widow in Morris County.

Kristina Scorpo tragically lost her husband, Francesco, to Coronavirus in April; he died on Easter Sunday, and the Paterson Police where he served as an officer for five years held a procession with his motorcycle past the house that day. He left behind two small children.

Tina is a maternity nurse who often treats COVID-19 patients.

“My father nominated me for the program, and I was the first in Morris County to be chosen,” she said. “We had been getting ready to replace the roof this summer, but then my husband died.”

Blue Nail Roofing and Siding performed the work on Scorpo’s roof, which took a day. In an interesting twist, Hogan’s wife Nina was pregnant at the time of the June install and recently had the baby – under the care of Scorpo.

“She’s part of the team at St. Barnabas,” Hogan said. “He’s our first child; we knew she was a nurse but then it was such a coincidence that she helped deliver our son.”

“It was the best kind of paying it forward,” Scorpo said.

Scorpo said she is very thankful for the Roofs for Heroes program, and thought it was “cool” that they picked her.

“The whole program could mean a lot for front line workers, especially someone deeply affected like me,” she said. “I am much appreciative to GAF, Habitat for Humanity, and John and Nina at Blue Nail. It’s kind of nice that a Montville business did the work on my roof.”
