CLARK, NJ -- American Insurance Services Agency is announcing a new Veteran Career Information Open House to promote insurance careers to veterans and to educate professionals about the advantages of hiring individuals who served in the military.

Inspired by the Walmart “Greenlight A Vet™” program, American Insurance is inviting veterans to an event on June 6 in Clark that will give them an opportunity to meet New Jersey insurance agents and executives from major insurance carriers. American Insurance has invited members from the New Jersey Agency Network, a network of 40+ insurance agencies in New Jersey, to meet with veterans at the event. American Insurance is the master agency for NJAN.

“Men and women who served in the armed forces have unique skills that are transferrable to many civilian jobs in IT, sales and management. This program gives us an opportunity to show our gratitude by helping veterans find meaningful careers,” said Nick San Filippo, CEO of American Insurance and NJAN. “People who have spent time in the service have learned how to work with others, follow orders, think on their own, and make tough decisions – skills we need in our workplace today.“

America Insurance is also building an online database of job-seeking veterans that will be available to NJAN agents and their thousands of business clients across the state. As a follow-up to the event, veterans who attend the Open House will be given access to a free online evaluation of their skills and strengths from Predictive Index, Inc., which can be added to their online database profiles.

Veterans can help fill the workforce gap facing the insurance industry. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 400,000 insurance job openings by the year 2020. Nearly 50 percent of the industry’s workforce is above the age of 45. As people leave jobs due to retirement and illness, agencies will be fighting for new hires from a shrinking talent pool. Millennials, individuals aged 22-40, represent only 25 percent of the U.S. workforce today, but are expected to represent 50 percent by 2020.

The event is on June 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the Clark American Legion, 78 Westfield Avenue, Clark, N.J. Parking is available onsite. For more information about the career information program for veterans, visit www.americanins.com or call (732) 680-4444.

At the event, America Insurance will debut a promotional video to highlight the advantages of hiring veterans. The video stars a recent veteran in both military and job settings to demonstrate the transferrable skills that veterans bring to the job market, such as leadership, teamwork, strong character, high standards, positive work ethic, and the ability to perform under pressure.

The video will be available to all NJAN members to promote the program in their communities. American Insurance will also promote the program on NJAN member websites and social media platforms. View the video here:
