CLARK, NJ – Mayor Bonaccorso is speaking out about the decision to close schools and the status of other township services.
“Superintendent Grande and I have been in constant communication and I have to say he was diligent and really wanted to make sure Clark schools only closed when they had to and that the days would count toward the required 180,” said Bonaccorso. “I give him a lot of credit here; this is a tough situation and certainly not something any of us have dealt with on a regular basis.”
Bonaccorso said the entire Recreation Center and Town Hall are going to remain open at this time. He also explained the Recreation Center received a deep disinfecting on Saturday afternoon and the regime will continue going forward. “Our facilities are always well-cleaned and serviced and now we are going to do even more.”
According to Bonaccorso the decision to keep the Recreation Department open will be evaluated daily. “There have been no confirmed cases of the virus in Clark so for now we will keep some programs running but it really will be on a day by day basis.
Bonaccorso said he was told by various staff members that senior citizens and other groups have asked that their meetings not be canceled and at this week’s meeting half the seniors still came to the Recreation Center. “At this point, it is up to the discretion of the residents whether they want to attend,” he said.
Since the virus has not appeared in Clark at this time, the mayor additional recommended citizens stay close to town, and away from places where people from other communities gather such as shopping malls and other crowded venues.
The Mayor said Town Hall will be open for business as usual Monday and Public Works will be doing their duties as well. For those residents that would prefer not to be out, can visit the town's website for information.
Bonaccorso made it clear that plans can change and closings may happen depending on many variables in a time like this and Clark Township would make adjustments as needed.
