CLARK, NJ – Plans are in the works for 43 apartments at a vacant Raritan Road property, Business Administrator John Laezza revealed during the town council meeting July 15.

 “The property was acquired by a developer in the community,” Laezza said. “He is preparing plans to build 43 apartments on that site.”

Laezza explained that the property, across from Manny’s Diner, is one of the sites designated for affordable housing in the township. He said the developer’s plans were reviewed by the township’s engineer, who said the plans need to be revised before being brought to the planning board.

“[The developer] gave us preliminary plans to go before the planning board,” Laezza said. “However, the initial review by our engineer indicates that they have to be modified somewhat, but there will be apartments there subsequently.”

The apartments are not expected to have any retail space included, Laezza said.

The property is one of eight affordable housing sites included in the township’s 2017 affordable housing settlement. The settlement also includes the property at the corner of Valley Road and Walnut Avenue, as well as the former site of the A&P on Westfield Avenue.
