CLARK, NJ – Brooke Gallo, a junior at Arthur L. Johnson High School, has a serious passion for volunteering.

Brooke was nominated as a “Hometown Hero and Community Champion” by Rose Melillo, who called Brooke “one of the most active youths in our township, willing to lend a hand whenever asked, and coming up with her own projects when [there] are no others.”

In an interview with TAPinto Clark, Brooke’s mother Jennifer shared more about her daughter’s dedication to community service. Brooke has volunteered over 500 hours a year since starting high school, according to Jennifer. This year, she collected 500 coats for a coat drive to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. She is also involved in planning a polar bear plunge to benefit Special Olympics and Unified Sports, which facilitates athletic activities that unify children with and without intellectual disabilities.

Jennifer told TAPinto Clark that Brooke’s dedication to community service was evident even during her childhood as she participated in K-Kids and Builders Club in elementary and middle school. Today, as President of ALJ’s Key Club, she has worked to facilitate many events, including a clothing drive and food pantry.

Brooke was nominated for the Humanitarian Award at the Miss NJ Teen USA Pageant in both 2017 and 2018, Jennifer said. As reported in November, Brooke won this year’s Humanitarian Award and was a finalist in the overall competition. After completing high school, Brooke plans to study speech therapy and/or audiology with hopes of becoming a sign language interpreter, Jennifer added.
