WESTFIELD, NJ — A 50-year-old woman from Garwood faces multiple charges in connection with a May 3 motor vehicle burglary on Park Drive, police said Thursday.
Detectives arrested Kristie Murphy at her residence in Garwood at 6:35 p.m. last Friday and charged her with burglary, theft, credit card theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception, police said.
“We cannot become complacent with the safety and security of our property,” said Chief Christopher Battiloro in a news release. “We must seek to follow some simple target hardening measures.”
The charges are unrelated to Saturday’s night’s burglary spree during which thieves broke into at least nine vehicles and stole a Toyota Corolla, police said. No arrests have been made in connection to the Saturday crimes.
Battiloro reminded the public to remove valuables from plain sight, roll up vehicle windows and lock all doors, especially at night. He referenced a national social media campaign Westfield police have joined reminding the public of the importance of locking up.
“Be sure to follow our #9PMRoutine,” Battiloro said.
Anyone with further information relating to this motor vehicle burglary or others is asked to contact the Westfield Police Department at 908-789-4000.
