CLARK, NJ – Thirty-two apartments and an unknown number of residents were evacuated after an electrical fire at the Hillcrest Village Apartments Saturday afternoon, Fire Chief Frank Cerasa told TAPinto Clark.

Evacuated residents were taken to Clark’s Municipal Building as Emergency Services from both Clark and Union County monitored firefighters, police, and displaced residents, Cerasa said.

Cerasa said the Clark Fire Department was dispatched to the Hillcrest Village Apartments at 1220 Cellar Avenue shortly after 1:00 p.m. after reports of smoke in the basement.

He said the department responded with three engines, a ladder truck, and two support trucks totaling 18 members. Members of the Clark Police Department were also on scene. Responders from Garwood, Cranford and Scotch Plains were also present on standby, he added.
