Clark, NJ — Arthur L. Johnson High School student athlete Carly Tarentino signed a letter of intent to play NCAA Collegiate Athletics at the University of Virginia next year according to a statement released by the school's Athletic Director, Gus Kalikas. The ceremony took place on Thursday at the school with family members, teachers, administrators and coaches on hand.
Tarentino plans to continue competing in track & field at the University of Virginia for the Cavaliers. Tarentino had an outstanding career while with the ALJ Crusader Track & Field team. According to Kalikas, her accomplishments make her one of the best track & field athletes to ever compete at ALJ:
- 2 x UCC Conference Champion.
- 3x UCIAC County Champion (Combined Winter & Spring).
- 3x NJSIAA Sectional State Champion (Combined Winter & Spring).
- 2x NJSIAA Group State Champion (Spring).
- 5x County & State Group Relay Champion (Combined Winter & Spring).
- 1st Team All State All Groups (2019-2020).
Tarentino was also a member of the fall cheerleading squad.
“Carly has been an integral part of the success of our athletic programs while competing at Arthur L. Johnson High School. More importantly, she has been a model student athlete that did things the right way both on the mats, in the classroom, and throughout our community,” said Kalikas. “Although it will be sad to see her leave, the Crusader’s loss is Virginia’s gain, and we look forward to following her successful collegiate athletic career over the next four years.”
