CLARK, NJ - Arthur L. Johnson High School Seniors Cecilia Puentes and Natalya Torres participated in a signing day ceremony on Friday, May 3. Various staff members and administrators at the school participated in the ceremony to honor both student athletes for their years of service to Crusader Athletics and to commemorate their signing letter of intent to play NCAA Collegiate Athletics.
Puentes signed her letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic career playing soccer at Pace University for the Setters. According to school officials, Puentes had an outstanding season for the Crusaders as she led her team to an outstanding season. She scored 40 goals and added 41 assists throughout her soccer career while also playing for the Crusader Girls’ Basketball team.
Torres signed her letter of intent to compete in Track and Field at Monmouth University for the Division 1 Hawks. During her time with the Crusaders Torres led her team to multiple High Jump Championships throughout, including recently setting the Union County record in the High Jump relays.
Gus Kalikas, Athletic Director at Arthur L. Johnson High School reflected on the accomplishments of each student athlete. “Cecilia and Natalya have been integral parts of the success of our athletic programs while competing at Arthur L. Johnson High School. More importantly, they have been model student athletes that did things the right way both on the fields, in the classroom, and throughout our community,” he said. “Although it will be sad to see them leave, the Crusaders' loss is their University’s gain, and we look forward to following their successful collegiate athletic careers over the next four years.”
