JAMESBURG, NJ -- The Union Catholic girls cross-country team, led by Abby Granrath, came up with a big victory, and the boys, behind Shane Brosnan, finished a very close second at the Central Jersey Shootout on Saturday at Thompson Park.

On the girls side, Union Catholic defeated South Brunswick on the combined scoring, 41-66. UC's top five runners were junior Abby Granrath (20:29), freshman Leilani Gibson (20:41), senior Morgan Williams (21:27), senior Danielle Coyne (21:38), and sophomore Asydiah Pray-Brown (21:52).

The Vikings nearly made it a title swee as the boys placed second behind Old Bridge in the combined scoring, 78-79. South Brunswick placed third with 80 points.

Junior Shane Brosnan had a great race for UC, running a personal best 16:20, the third fastest time of the day. UC's other scorers were Junior Myles Plummer (16:34), senior Matt Granizo (16:52), senior Sam Hernandez (17:40), and sophomore Caudell Cajuste (17:52).
