GARWOOD, NJ – A section of North Avenue is closed for utility repairs needed after a building collapsed, taking down power lines with it earlier in the week, police said Friday.
“North Avenue will be closed in both directions from Lincoln Avenue to Cedar Street due to emergency utility repairs,” police said in a Nixle message around 9:30 a.m. “Please avoid this area and plan alternate routes.”
The partial collapse of the Paperboard factory building Wednesday had brought down the wires when a portion of the structure slated for demolition fell into the roadway.
A spokeswoman for PSE&G, Lauren Ugorji, said the utility anticipated completing the repairs so local police could reopen the road by early Friday evening.
