CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Those driving on Rock Island Road through Coral Springs will experience lane closures in the coming months as a road improvement project kicks off on Tuesday.

From May 26 through some time in the fall, a stretch of the road from Sample Road to Wiles Road will be widened to accommodate five-foot bike lanes in each direction, according to the Florida Department of Transportation, which is handling the project.

Sidewalks will also be upgraded from asphalt to concrete, and a school crossing will be upgraded as well at NW 38th Court.

Drivers should expect single-lane closures in each direction, Mondays through Fridays from 9-3:30 pm.

In addition, sidewalks will be closed in the area but people will still be able to walk in the construction zone.

The cost of the project could not be determined on Monday.
