CORAL SPRINGS, FL – There’s been a lot said lately about police conduct in Coral Springs and across the nation.

Coral Springs City Commissioner Joshua Simmons will now add his perspective in a new four-part video series called “Conversations with a Commissioner” in which he’ll be speaking with members of Coral Springs Police Department.

Expected to premiere Wednesday on the city’s media outlets, the one-on-one conversations will start with Simmons speaking to Police Chief Clyde Parry.

“We had a really good conversation,” Simmons said about the first episode during last week’s City Commission meeting.

After that, according to a city memo describing the series, Simmons will be speaking with officers regarding:

- Why a law enforcement career, and what policing means to an officer.

- Mental health training officers receive, and how the crisis intervention unit operates.

- Importance of resource officers in schools and community policing initiatives.

Simmons said the conversations are meant to educate the public on the many different roles of police officers.

“We’ll work our way through a lot of the issues and things we face together as a country and a city,” Simmons said.
