CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Coral Springs Police Department extends our deepest appreciation and a big congratulations to the 2019 Officer of the Year Award winner, Officer Chris Swinson.

Officer Swinson is one of the senior officers within the Traffic Unit. He is a well-trained, highly-respected Traffic Homicide Investigator and is one of three certified motorcycle instructors for the unit. He has attended hundreds of hours of additional training in these positions.

In addition to his duties as a traffic officer, Officer Swinson takes on countless additional responsibilities throughout the department and on his own time. He is one of the department's Public Information Officers, is our department's Florida Department of Transportation grant coordinator, and serves as the Special Events Coordinator.

Officer Swinson spends countless hours attending meetings, developing site plans and safety plans, scheduling details officers, and meeting with vendors to ensure the success of each event. This includes all the city's major events such as Our Town, Art Festival, the Half Marathon, Unplugged concert events, Bits 'n Sips, WorldFest, Savor the Notes, Fourth of July fireworks, Holiday Parade, and Downtown in December just to name a few.

In addition to all of his department responsibilities, Officer Swinson volunteers a significant amount of his personal time as the President of the executive board for the Southeast Police Motorcycle Rodeo committee. He was elected to the position by his peers due to the overwhelming respect he has throughout the law enforcement community. Each year, he organizes the Southeast Police Motorcycle Rodeo competition. This weeklong event is attended by hundreds of riders from all over the country competing in numerous skills competitions.

As President, Officer Swinson has been instrumental in fundraising that has led to the donation of computers and A/V equipment to the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County. The committee has also donated to the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) KIDS camp and has also made numerous donations to the families of fallen officers throughout the country.

Officer Swinson sacrifices his free time and time with his family to coordinate these events because of his passion to represent the Coral Springs Police Department and help those in need. We applaud you and thank you for your service, Officer Swinson.
