CORAL SPRINGS, FL – A 67-year-old registered sex offender showed up Saturday at Coral Springs Police Department with an announcement: he fondled a child and was turning himself in, a police report said.
Mark Felton, of Coral Springs, told officers he came forward because he wanted the girl’s family to heal after the incident, the report said.
He has been registered as a sex offender with the Florida Department of Corrections following a lewd and lascivious charge in Lee County in 2000, the report said.
To protect the child’s identify, TAPinto Coral Springs isn’t revealing how Felton knows her.
Sometime during the week of April 5, Felton told police the child sat on his lap, and, while tickling her, he touched her private areas, the report said.
When police spoke to the child along with her family members, she told them Felton touched her inappropriately.
According to the report, Felton apologized to police for fondling the child, saying “it was his fault” and he “knew it was wrong.”
Police arrested him and charged him with two counts of lewd and lascivious.
Felton remained at Broward County Jail on Wednesday.
