PARKLAND, FL- Make Our Schools Safe is hosting a virtual run next month to encourage a healthy lifestyle and support school safety. 'Run for School Safety' is a virtual run or walk taking place June 27-28, 2020. Participants can run or walk 1 mile, 5K or 10K any time the last weekend in June. All proceeds of the race will go to Make Our Schools Safe.
The race was started in Alyssa Alhadeff's memory by her cousin Jaydon. Alyssa and Jaydon were just a year apart in age and had a close relationship. Jaydon is a sophomore at Nyack High School in Nyack, New York. Jaydon has been a strong activist working for school safety since Alyssa's death. She serves as the President of the Make Our Schools Safe Club at Nyack High School.
"I am so proud of her activism. Alyssa would have been proud," shared Lori Alhadeff, mother of Alyssa.
Make Our Schools Safe is a non-profit that works to ensure safety of students and school employees. Money raised from the event will benefit the work Make Our Schools Safe is doing to improve school’s safety and security initiatives; specialized fencing to produce single point of entry, ballistic glass on schools, stop the bleed kits and training, Alyssa’s Law (silent panic alarms in schools), mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
