CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Since the start of Covid-19, it’s become a Wednesday tradition at Chabad of Coral Springs: hundreds of cars lined up late in the afternoon to pick up boxes of donated produce.
This Wednesday, the food distribution continues at the synagogue/community center on 3925 N. University Drive, starting at 5 pm.
The food, provided by Simply Fresh, is available to anyone struggling to get by during the pandemic, organizers said.
In recent weeks, the company has been delivering 3,000 boxes of fresh produce.
The weekly giveaways have turned into wider community events with volunteers from schools and businesses joining elected officials to hand-deliver the boxes to the waiting cars.
At times, the drivers waiting in line to get food on University Drive have caused traffic backups, prompting police to put out alerts to motorists to stay clear of the area while food is handed out.
