CORAL SPRINGS, FL – A 43-year-old landscaper allegedly went on a shopping spree at Walmart in Coral Springs this week, putting $658 worth of clothing, body wash, and a motorized scooter in his shopping cart, a police report said.
When it came time to pay, Radcliffe Barnett of Tamarac scanned the items in a self-checkout line but didn’t pay for them, the report said.
Barnett then walked out of the store at 3801 Turtle Creek Drive with the merchandise to find the store’s loss prevention officer waiting for him.
After police arrested him in the June 28 incident, Barnett told officers was trying to be “slick” when he went through the checkout line without paying, the report said.
Police later found out Barnett was on probation and had previously been found guilty of other theft crimes.
Barnett caught the attention of the store’s prevention officer shortly after he came in. The officer watched Barnett on the store’s video system putting T-shirts, package shirts, underwear and pants in his cart, the report said. He then added body wash products and a motorized scooter from the toy department.
He was charged with petit theft and violation of probation, the report said. He remained at Broward County Jail on Saturday on a $750 bond for the theft charge and no bond for the probation violation.
