CORAL SPRINGS, FL – For those looking to adopt kittens in Coral Springs, they can potentially find their match at the Petco store under a new program managed by a nonprofit pet rescue agency.

This summer, Good Karma Pet Rescue began displaying kittens at the store at 9200 Wiles Road meant for adoption, said Brianna Garris, the agency’s cat program manager.

At least four kittens have been adopted since mid-June.

“Every adoption is exciting,” Garris said.

The pet rescue and foster home organization asks pet owners to pay for adoption fees -- typically $75-150 -- which include costs to spay/neuter, microchip, FIV/FeLV testing vaccinations, and de-worming.

The process to adopt is fairly simple, Garris said.

A person needs to fill out an online application with the agency, which then reviews the application, usually within two days.

As part of the process, the agency’s volunteers ensure a cat is permitted at a rental home, or they verify if the potential owner owns a home.

The cats available at Petco now for adoption are mostly strays.

If the cats on display at the store aren’t adopted, they are placed with cat foster families in the region. The cats are featured at the store for two weeks.

“Our goal, of course, is for all of our kittens to be adopted,” Garris said.
