CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, the fast-food chain known for Cajun dishes and chicken sandwiches, is looking to open a restaurant in Coral Springs.

The chain has proposed opening in the Cypress Run Marketplace plaza at West Atlantic Boulevard and Coral Springs Drive, where the Walmart Neighborhood Market is anchored, according to Coral Springs’ website featuring upcoming development projects.

It’s not clear from the website if the restaurant would be in a free-standing building or in a storefront in the plaza.

The chain said in an email this week that their hope is to open in Coral Springs by the end of the year.

Popeyes has more than 3,100 restaurants across the globe, according to its Wikipedia page. That includes locations in Deerfield Beach and Lauderhill.

In 2019, the restaurant’s popular chicken sandwiches were sold out at many locations, causing chaos in some places as fights broke out. A man was stabbed to death in a Maryland Popeye's parking lot following a fight in line for a sandwich.

No other information was immediately available about Popeyes plans in Coral Springs.
