CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Two unrelated incidents in Coral Springs – shooting and missing teenage – on Wednesday morning led to a heavy police response and lockdown of schools in the north part of the city, as well as in Parkland.
Police continue investigating the shooting in the 10700 block of NW 54 Place shortly before 6:30 a.m., Sgt. Ernesto Bruna said.
An injured man was taken to Broward Health North.
Police are trying to determine if the shooting was self-inflicted.
The man’s condition could not be determined.
Shortly before the shooting, police were called to investigate a possible abduction of a
15-year-old, Bruna said.
It was close to where the shooting took place.
Officers are still investigating the matter, but the youth is home.
As police investigated the two incidents and searched for a suspected shooter, a helicopter flew over and police cars flooded the streets in the area of North Wyndham Lakes.
That prompted the precautionary lockdowns of nearby schools including Eagle Ridge Elementary in Coral Springs and Westglades Middle School and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
By 8:30 a.m., the lockdowns were lifted and the search for the shooter was suspended.
No other information was available from police.
