CORAL SPRINGS, FL – The 29-year-old woman was looking to steal a car in Coral Springs.

On May 23, Alexandra Stewart, of Delray Beach, allegedly jumped into a car outside a salon in the 9300 block of West Sample Road while the car’s owner was outside talking and the owner’s mother was sitting in the passenger’s seat, a police report said. Stewart tried to drive off but failed to put the car into the drive mode.

The car’s owner and mother screamed at Stewart to get out, and after the mother took out the keys from the ignition, Stewart ran off, the report said.

Shortly after that, Stewart allegedly hopped into another car, this one running and stopped at the intersection of West Sample Road and University Drive, the report said. The car’s owner told police that Stewart initially wanted a ride to some place, and then she tried to push her way into the driver’s seat. The owner got out and Stewart drove off in his car.

Police stopped Stewart in Pompano Beach and took her into custody, the report said. She was charged with two counts of grand theft auto.

She remains at the Broward County Jail on $2,500 bond for each charge.
