PARKLAND, FL - For students who produced the musical Imaginary this week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, it was no doubt exciting to perform the show in front of their community.
It was an even bigger thrill to do the show on Friday evening with one of its composers -- Stuart Matthew Price – in the audience.
“He was incredible,” said Caroline Eaton, a 10th grader and one of the actors, who met Price after the show. “He was so personal and connected with all of us.”
Price, who composed the music and lyrics, flew in to South Florida just to watch the show about childhood and what it means to grow up. At the end of the show, he was introduced and then talked with the cast and crew and took lots of photos.
Eaton said Price was impressed with the quality of the three-night show put on by MSD’s drama department.
“He didn’t expect the talent to be on this level,” she said.
Price was commissioned by the National Youth Music Theatre to write Imaginary for their summer 2017 season at The Other Palace, London. Timothy Knapman is credited with the show’s book and lyrics.
The show will be performed for the final time tonight at MSD. Tickets are $13 for adults, $8 for students, and can be purchased online.
