ALDI will soon go into the location of Lucky’s Market when the store closes next month at the corner of University Drive and Wiles Road.
Lucky’s Market confirmed Thursday morning that ALDI, a discount supermarket chain, is taking over its store as part of the company filing for Chapter 11 protection.
Lucky’s Market’s 75 Coral Springs employees hadn’t heard the details of their company’s agreements with ALDI and didn’t know what, if any, impact that will have on their jobs, which include cooks, cashiers, stock clerks, and laborers, store manager Morgan Mislan said. They are still planning to close the store on Feb. 12.
Lucky’s Market bankruptcy filing is intended to move forward the sale of Lucky Market’s remaining assets and the company has signed Asset Purchase Agreements with ALDI for five leased store properties and the purchase of one owned property. One of those stores is in Coral Springs.
Lucky’s Market didn’t disclose when ALDI will be opening in Coral Springs. ALDI declined to confirm or comment on its opening, only saying the chain is expanding across Florida.
"We can confirm ALDI is acquiring several Lucky’s Market locations in Florida,” said Dan Gavin, Vice President National Real Estate, ALDI U.S. “Among other innovative real estate strategies, site acquisitions are an important part of our growth efforts.”
ALDI operates more than 1,900 U.S. stores in 36 states, according to the company.
