CORAL SPRINGS, FL – This Sunday morning, first-responders including emergency workers, medical staff, and delivery drivers can have their cars and trucks disinfected for free at Hampton Inn & Suites Coconut Creek.

It’s courtesy of Coral Springs resident Oscar Lora, who owns Ohana Inspections, as well as his friend Fernando Graziano of AdvantaClean of Boca Raton.

“I want to give back and help people who are doing so much in our community right now,” said Lora, a licensed home inspector who specializes in inspecting, testing, and treating mold.

The 33-year-old Navy veteran said he offered to disinfect the inside of vehicles of police officers, firefighters, doctors, nurses, delivery workers, and others because many of them are bringing bacteria from their shifts at work into their vehicles and eventually their homes.

At the disinfecting event, Lora and a few volunteers will have a “fogging” device that will kill off the bacteria in the vehicles. They will then wipe down the seats and compartments. The whole process should take about 15 minutes.

Lora said he’s got time now to give back. The coronavirus has largely shut down his home inspections business that he started three years ago.

“We have the chemicals, and we wanted to do something” to honor the work first-responders are doing, said Lora, who grew up in New York City, Colombia, and Coral Springs.

He’s wanted to do the disinfecting event for a few weeks but couldn’t find a location until a friend from the hotel, Kyra Poulos, offered to do it there.

Poulos, director of sales for Morlin Hospitality Group, which runs the hotel, said the hotel’s location on State Road 441 is a “natural fit” for such an event.

“At a time when everyone wants to do their part, while also social distancing, it is a small role we could play in saying thank-you to the men and women on the front lines of this virus,” she said.

Lora said his crew will be ready to disinfect every vehicle that shows up.

“We'll be there for as long as it takes to get it done,” he said.

The vehicle disinfecting event will be Sunday, 9-11 am, at Hampton Inn & Suites Coconut Creek at 5740 State Road 7.
