CORAL SPRINGS, FL – With more people home and going online during the coronavirus, internet traffic has skyrocketed.

That’s resulted in slower download speeds and video quality, especially when using streaming platforms such as Netflix and Hulu.

The issue came up at last week’s Mayor’s Town Hall meeting.

Coral Springs Deputy City Manager Robert Curnow suggested visiting websites to find the fastest internet provider in your zip code.

Among those sites: https://www.inmyarea.com/internet

“You can see who is most prevalent in your area,” Curnow said.

In Coral Springs, the main internet providers are Blue Stream, AT&T and Comcast.

Experts say the internet itself isn’t causing the slowdowns that result in frozen faces on Zoom meetings or grainer than normal YouTube videos.

The delays are more the result of apps and major platforms such as Netflix and Facebook that are less tested from the surge in new traffic in recent months.
