CORAL SPRINGS, FL- Schools will remain closed until at least April 15 and all Florida state testing is now canceled for this year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday.
"From this school year on, all remaining testing for school readiness, voluntary pre-K and K-12 will be canceled for the school year," DeSantis said during a news conference.
The governor added that the requirements for graduation and promotion and final course grades will be evaluated as if those assessments did not exist. He could not confirm that K-12 schools will go to strictly virtual online schooling to finish the school year.
Additional points made by DeSantis:
- Funds are being disbursed to provide low-income students with the technology needed for online learning.
- Parents may choose at their discretion to keep their children in the same grades for the 2020-2021 school year.
- K-12 grades will not be calculated for 2019-2020.
- All Florida universities and colleges will finish the semesters online by remote access.
