CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Thousands of laptops will be given to students in need at local schools on Friday from 8 am – 2 pm so that students can start using a new platform for remote instruction on March 30.

School officials said parents need to preset their students’ online username and password to pick up computers, which are available on a first come, first served basis. Parents need to complete required forms before getting a device at their child’s school.

Broward County Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie said this week that there are 90,000 laptops and other devices available to students.

For families needing internet, the schools district has worked out a plan with Comcast to provide eligible families with free internet services for 60 days. After that, Runcie said parents will have to pay $10 a month for the service. He said the district is working with Comcast to negotiate a better rate.
