CORAL SPRINGS, FL – The weekly food distribution at Coral Square Mall in Coral Springs is coming to an end.

This Tuesday, May 26, will be the last food giveaway, the City of Coral Springs announced on Sunday on social media.

The reason for ending the weekly event was not given.

Thousands of people from Coral Springs and elsewhere have lined up to get the donated food in the mall parking lot since the distribution site opened on Tuesdays in mid-April.

Each week, between 700-900 families have driven their cars through the site where volunteers put bags of groceries into the trunks of cars. Some families arrived early and waited hours to make sure they were served.

The city government has been organizing the feeding site with Feeding South Florida, which delivers the food. It’s been mostly city employees who have staffed the event at the mall.

See our story on the city’s “Food For The Soul” team which has helped organize the events.

“We cannot thank Feeding South Florida enough for their support in our community,” the city said in a tweet.
