CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Could she be near the Sawgrass Trailhead at Atlantic Boulevard in Coral Springs? Or is she deep in Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge off Parkland?

The search is on for a 10-year-old mixed breed dog named Kika who escaped from her Parkland home on Tuesday.

For the past two days, more than 500 people have been looking for the white dog across northwest Broward County after her owners, Jose Anzarut and his wife, Daniela, posted on social media about their missing beloved pet -- and their calls for help went viral.

The dog was spotted briefly but then took off, he said.

On Wednesday, the couple with two young children hired a private helicopter crew to search in the Everglades with people on the ground using walkie-talkies to communicate with the pilot, Jose Anzarut said.

“We love our dog – she’s part of our family,” Jose Anzarut said Thursday morning as he was heading to a store to purchase a drone to help in the search for Kika.**BULLSEYE

The dog’s twin sister, Lola also escaped from the couple’s home in Parkland Bay, just east of Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge.

But Lola was found hours later in their development after she took off with Kika, he said. Both dogs were rescues when the couple lived in Mexico City.

The couple was away in Mexico City when they got a call from their house sitter on Tuesday morning that Kika and Lola had escaped, most likely because their home’s backyard gate wasn’t locked, he said.**STANDARD

Jose Anzarut, who owns a textile company in Mexico, said he immediately flew home to search for the dogs and Daniela took to social media to share photos and encourage residents to keep an eye out for the dogs.

People from across the region joined the search and others from as far as California offered their thoughts where Kika could be, Jose Anzarut said.

“People are essentially so good. This response has been amazing,” he said.**BULLSEYE

Jose Anzarut said dog experts who contacted him and his wife have suggested Kika may be heading north or could be lost in the Everglades.

“The truth is, we don’t know where she is,” he said. “But we’ll keep looking. We’re grateful to everyone for helping us. Every person looking is very helpful.”
