CORAL SPRINGS, FL – City Manager Frank Babinec is proud to announce the selection of John Norris to serve as the city’s new Director of Public Works. Norris is filling the role left vacant after the retirement of Richard Michaud, who proudly served the city for 29 years.
 
Norris has held several leadership positions within the disciplines of Public Works, making him a great candidate for our growing and innovative city.
 
Of the selection, City Manager Frank Babinec says, “The Department of Public Works is vital to our operations and is responsible for our city’s infrastructure, utilities, facilities management, streets, stormwater program, fleet and equipment management, and the contracts for solid waste and recycling. I am confident that John’s experience and leadership will continue to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Coral Springs. We are excited to have him join our team.”

A graduate of the Citadel Military College of South Carolina, Norris earned his degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2001. Most recently, he served as the Director of Manufacturing for Colony Tire Corporation in Edenton, North Carolina. Prior to this position he served as Director of Stormwater, Pavement and Traffic Operations for the City of St. Petersburg, Florida and the Director of Public Works in Edenton, North Carolina.
 
In his new role, Norris will lead our full-service Public Works Department utilizing the application of technical public works and expertise to a variety of complex city projects. Attracted to the culture of innovation and inclusion fostered in the City of Coral Springs, Norris is excited to be a part of an organization with such driven employees, who are focused on improving the city for all its residents and businesses.

Of his profession, Norris adds, “Public Works employees are problem solvers; no matter how large or small the project might be, we identify the problem, come up with solutions and fix it. We take great pride in the projects we complete because they will be around for generations.”
 
Married to Annie, his wife of 11 years, they are raising two daughters, Logan (10) and Caroline (6).  John is also the proud parent of college freshman, Charlotte, who is attending the University of Maryland – College Park. An avid car enthusiast when he is not working, John enjoys fishing, boating and renovation projects.
 
John Norris officially begins his career with the City of Coral Springs on September 30, 2020.
