CORAL SPRINGS, FL – On March 17, 94th Avenue, just outside City Hall, will be dedicated as Walter “Skip” Campbell Avenue, Coral Springs officials announced Monday.
Campbell was the popular mayor of Coral Springs and a Florida state senator for 10 years representing west and northwest corridors of Broward County, as well as president of the Broward County Bar Association, Broward County Trial Lawyers' Association, and Federal Bar Association of Broward County.
He passed away in 2018.
According to a city news release, the decision to rename 94th Avenue between Sample Road and 31st Court (just east of City Hall) was voted by the City Commission and unanimously approved in 2019. The chosen date of March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, for the dedication, is a “direct correlation of the late Mayor’s Irish heritage – one that he was immensely proud of,” the release said.
Mayor Scott Brook said in the release: “I personally considered Skip to be a great friend and mentor – he was a true pillar of our community. I can think of no better way to honor his legacy and impact on our City.”
The dedication is open to the public. Coral Springs Community Redevelopment Agency funded the cost to designate the roadway. The cost could not immediately be determined.
